November 11, 2011—The traditional cake cutting celebration, with the youngest Marines eating first was held at Camp Pendleton Thursday and with the newest recruits out of San Diego receiving their anchor, globe and eagle and becoming Marines. The celebration for the 236th Marine Corps birthday included parades, the Marine Corps ball and other ceremonies.

Motorcycle accident and DUI attorney Michael P. Ehline an inactive Marine, he found Marine Corps Commandant General James Amos celebration speech fitting for the occasion. Commandant General Amos stated in his Marine Birthday speech that the U.S. Marine Corps is “America’s expeditionary force in readiness.” He spoke of the hundreds of Marines that were killed and the thousands that were injured during the 10 years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then spoke of the U.S. Marine Corps birthday, saying “since the Continental Congress created two battalions of Marines 236 years ago, our legacy as ever ready, ever capable, victory producing organization remains intact.”
